The idea was simple, but let’s face it, our situation was NOT.
How It Started
As stay-at-home orders were announced around the world in the middle of March 2020, many people found themselves at home and in desperate need of additional human connection. Some people wanted to find distraction by learning a new idea. Others just needed a break from the new monotony of their days. A group of us saw an opportunity to be of service by bringing all of these groups together, and the idea for Quarantine Academy was born!
What It This About?
Quarantine Academy was a way for people to do something positive when things were uncertain. It was simply a group of people leveraging technology and their network of friends to create a new on-line community during a difficult time. It was not intended to replace participants’ educational or professional resources. Instead, it provided a daily break that facilitated connection and sharing.
Quarantine Academy sessions were centered around a central theme: no two people are alike. And neither were our conversations.
Daily sessions explored everything from the process of aging balsamic vinegar to the joy of raising urban chickens or exploring Antarctica. We even entertained the younger members of the household with daily Quarantine Academy Kids sessions featuring arts and crafts, science experiments, and Bollywood dancing.

What We Learned
We laughed, we taught, we learned, and we connected intellectually during a time where physical connection wasn’t possible. It was an unparalleled experience that we hope provided people with something to look forward to during the uncertain time.
Quarantine Academy proved that adversity has an incredible way of uniting people from different ages, races, and backgrounds. It also served as a reminder for life post-quarantine that the opportunity to expand our minds and open our hearts is always there. We just have to take the time to slow down and see it.
